Dear Stranger,

A new year. A new month. A new prompt.

Welcome to January. Whether you've been here since November or you're just finding us now, I'm glad you're here.

This month’s theme feels fitting for the turning of the calendar: what we’re leaving behind and what we’re stepping into. The endings that make space for new beginnings.

Over the next ten days, paid subscribers will write anonymous letters in response to this month’s theme. I’ll read every one, pair them thoughtfully, and send exchanges by mid-month.

What to Expect as a Free Subscriber

Around January 25th, you'll receive a curated collection of anonymous letters from this month's exchanges. Not all exchanges are shared - only those the writers have chosen to make public.

You can also explore our growing archive:

  • Letters from November: Write about something you’ve never told anyone.

  • Letters from December: Write about a moment you return to—one that lives in your mind more vividly than others.

Each month adds new voices, new truths, new reminders that we’re not alone in what we carry.

A Reminder About This Space

If you’re new here, a few things to know:

Dear Stranger is a space for:

  • Honesty without consequence

  • Vulnerability without judgment

  • Connection without identity

  • Truths that need somewhere to go

We protect each other’s anonymity. We hold each other’s words gently. We witness without trying to fix.

If you haven’t yet, read the Guidelines to understand what makes this space safe for everyone.
